1. General Notice
Electric scooters and electric bikes are subject to road, transport and safety laws that vary between Australian States and Territories.
Customers must not assume that a product is legal for public road, footpath, bike path, shared path or other public area use simply because it is available for sale on our website.
It is the customer’s responsibility to check the laws that apply in their location and intended use before purchasing, registering or riding any product.
2. Victoria E-Scooter Rules
In Victoria, an e-scooter used on public land must meet Victorian device requirements. A legal e-scooter must, among other things:
- have a maximum speed of 25 km/h on level ground,
- weigh no more than 45 kg,
- carry one person only,
- have two wheels, a footboard, and a handlebar.
Riders must also:
- be 16 years or older,
- wear a properly fitted helmet,
- ride at no more than 20 km/h,
- ride only on permitted paths and roads, including shared-use paths, bicycle paths and roads with speed limits up to 60 km/h.
Riders must not:
- ride on the footpath,
- ride an e-scooter capable of more than 25 km/h,
- ride on roads above 60 km/h,
- carry passengers or animals,
- use a hand-held phone, or
- ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Transport Victoria
3. Victoria E-Bike Rules
In Victoria, an e-bike can be used on public roads and road-related areas only if it meets the legal requirements.
A permitted EPAC-style e-bike must:
- have working pedals,
- have a motor with maximum continuous rated power of 250 watts,
- provide assistance only when pedalling,
- cut off assistance at 25 km/h,
- not be propelled by a throttle, except limited walk mode up to 6 km/h.
Some low-powered power-assisted pedal cycles up to 200 watts may also be permitted.
An e-bike that does not meet the legal requirements may be treated as an unregistered motor vehicle if used on public roads or road-related areas. High-powered, high-speed or modified e-bikes may only be used on private property. Transport Victoria
4. Restricted Use Products
Where a product is described by RIVOX as:
- off-road only,
- private property use only,
- not road legal, or
- subject to local restrictions,
the customer acknowledges that the product may not be legal for public use in Victoria or other Australian jurisdictions.
Such products must only be used in a lawful manner and in lawful locations.
5. No Guarantee of Public Road Legality
RIVOX does not guarantee that every product sold on this website is approved for public road or path use in every State or Territory.
The buyer is responsible for checking:
- road legality,
- registration requirements,
- helmet rules,
- age restrictions,
- speed and power limits,
- battery or transport restrictions,
- and any local council or authority rules that may apply.
6. Modifications and Derestriction
Customers must not modify, derestrict, tune, reprogram or otherwise alter a product to exceed legal limits or bypass safety systems.
Unauthorised modification may:
- make the product unsafe,
- void warranty support,
- breach local laws,
- affect insurance,
- and make the product unsuitable for lawful public use.
7. Customer Responsibility
By purchasing and using a product from RIVOX, the customer accepts full responsibility for ensuring that the product is used lawfully, safely and appropriately.
RIVOX is not responsible for:
- fines,
- penalties,
- infringement notices,
- impoundment,
- registration refusal,
- licence issues,
- confiscation,
- or other consequences arising from unlawful use after purchase.
